About the product

Is Markscanner fully automatic?
No. Markscanner drafts marks and per-question comments, but every result is editable and nothing is finalised until you approve it. It’s a review-and-approve workflow, not blind automation.
Do teachers still review the marks?
Yes, that’s the core of how Markscanner is designed. Low-confidence and ambiguous answers are flagged for your attention, and you can adjust any mark or comment before generating the final feedback sheet.
Can it handle handwritten math, not just multiple choice?
Handwritten math is what Markscanner is built for. It reads the student’s work, considers the steps and the final answer, and applies your rubric question by question.
Does it support partial marks?
Yes. Partial credit is applied at the sub-question level, so a student who sets up a question correctly but makes an arithmetic slip later on doesn’t lose the whole mark. Different valid forms — factored vs. expanded, mixed vs. improper, equivalent equations — are treated as equivalent where your rubric allows it.
Does it work with messy handwriting?
Markscanner is designed for real student work, including messy pages. When it isn’t confident about what a student wrote, it flags the answer for your review rather than guessing silently.
What kinds of math assessments is it best for?
Algebra, quadratic functions, graphing, multi-step problems, quizzes, and chapter tests are where Markscanner is strongest today. If you’re not sure whether your assessment fits, book a demo and we’ll take a look with you.

Files, exports, and feedback

What file types can I upload?
Scanned PDFs and common image formats. If you can scan a class set from a photocopier, phone camera, or document scanner, it’ll work.
Can I print feedback for students?
Yes. After you approve the grades, Markscanner generates a clean one-page feedback sheet per student — grade, per-question comments, strengths, and next steps — that you can print and staple to the returned paper.
Can I export grades?
Yes. You can download a CSV of the class results to drop into whatever gradebook you already use. No proprietary integration to set up.

Who it's for

Is this for individual teachers, tutors, or schools?
All three. Individual teachers and private tutors can sign up directly for $49 CAD / month. Schools, departments, and tutoring centres typically prefer to book a demo so we can walk through how it fits your specific workflow.

Pricing

Is there a free trial?
No free trial. Markscanner is $49 CAD / month for individual teachers, and you can cancel anytime. We’d rather be upfront about what it costs than build the price into a countdown.
How much does it cost?
$49 CAD / month for individual teachers. School and department pricing is handled through a demo conversation so we can match access to your class counts and roster structure.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. No contract, no minimum term. Cancel from your account whenever the school year wraps up.
Do you offer school or department access?
Yes — book a demo and we’ll walk through what makes sense for a department or whole-school rollout.

Student data and privacy

How is student work handled?
Scanned student work is sent to the grading model for the purpose of marking and is not used to train AI models. You can delete uploaded work from your account when you’re done with an assessment.
Where is the team based?
Markscanner is built by a Canadian team in London, Ontario.
